So another club weekend had arrived. This time the club journeyed to Port Augusta in search of photographic opportunities.

I picked up Ross Pollock for a leisurely drive on the Friday. First stop for the requisite large coffee and snack was Pt. Wakefield. First photographic stop was Bumbunga Lake (aka Pink Lake) Lochiel where we spent a leisurely half hour photographing around the lake, followed by a frantic half hour trying to find Ross’ glasses.

Travelling on, we met up with Don and Andrea Brooks at the jetty at Pt. Germein where more images were taken before continuing to our final destination at Pt. Augusta. A quick catch up of the attendees. The usual suspects were in attendance; Don and Andrea Brooks and their friends Graham and Enid Pascoe, the Seidels; Barb and Keith, the Dettmans; Robert and Rachael, the Hickeys; Sue and John, Aldo Trissi, Ross Pollock and Paul O’Leary plus newcomer Ross Lange who, while a club member for a number of years had not attended a weekend away before.

All headed out for the first of the sunset shoots with most electing to go to the boat ramp, so several of us were taking the same shots.

Back to the caravan park, all and sundry gathered at the Brooks’ hut for the traditional first night get together. port challenge and chat about weekend activities.

Ross and I were up for the morning shoot and looking at the wreck next to the bridge, when Ross suddenly seemed a lot taller. Belatedly I realised that it was me sinking into the mangrove. What we do for a shot!! More shots around the jetty and we received a call about a whale coming up the gulf so went whale spotting. THe best we could get was a distant tail fluke so back to the park for breakfast

Out and about rendered a few shots around tent hill, so back there for an evening shoot with Robert Dettman was the plan.

The club dinner at Ian’s Western Bistro followed the evening shoot and due to the inclement weather no night photography was attempted.

Up again for an early morning shoot saw us at the Pt. Augusta railway station as the overclouded sky precluded a decent sunrise.

Breakfast was followed by a trip to Quorn for steam locomotive rides or photos as the mood took members. This led to a fairly lengthy shoot for most of the day.

A communal tea was held back at the park and the inclement weather again put a stopped on night photography once again.

Next morning Ross and I decided to take a walk down to the base of Redcliff and shoot the sun rising on the cliffs.

The return trip was taken via the Horrocks highway rather than via Port Wakefield and this led to Ross getting his award winning Oscars shot.
