Eastern Suburbs Camera Club OSCAR Story

The annual weekend has been on the clubs Calendar for many years and was held on the June long weekend.

During the 1995 Edithburgh weekend away it was suggested to finish off this great weekend we should hold a special get together competition.

To that end this special competition was held some weeks later at one of the member’s homes.

The rules in the beginning from 1995 to 2007 were for a total of 4 images (Slides or Prints or a combination of both) to be presented and Judged by all the Members and Partners who attended the Weekend Away and in 2008 this competition was changed to a Digital only competition .

At the time the group also thought it would be a great idea if there was a Trophy for the winning Image and Don Brooks put his hand up to make the Trophy which was the birth of the OSCARS.

In the beginning the Oscars were made using bits and pieces collected during the weekend.

The attached images show the collection of these early Trophies from 1995 to 2010.

Then in 2011 Don Brooks foolishly changed these simple trophies to a more practical items but the trend continued.

The attached images show the collection of these later more practical Trophies from 2011 to 2022.

In 2020 due to the increasing numbers attending the clubs weekend away, this special get together could be no longer be held at a members home.

As the group still wanted to have this competition it was transferred to the Club which allowed all members to attend and the Images were to be Judged by an invited Judge.

The first of these competitions was held Via ZOOM due to Covid and the 2021 competition was allowed to be held at the Club and will be held this way in the future.
