Monthly Competitions
Monthly competitions have two divisions, Advanced and Intermediate. Almost all new members start in Intermediate, but there may be exceptions if an accomplished photographer of known reputation joins us from another club. At the end of each year the committee decides which Intermediate photographers, if any, will be asked to join Advanced. The individuals concerned can elect to stay in Intermediate, if they prefer. Both grades are judged on the same night.
People applying for membership must have their membership application approved by the Committee (which meets at the end of each month) and have paid the membership fee before competing. We apologise for any inconvenience if you are eager to show your work!
Meetings Schedule
Upcoming club meetings, activities and competition information are listed in the Calendar and circulated by the Secretary here.
Definitions
Definitions of Colour, Monochrome and various Set Subjects are the same in Monthly Competitions as in the Annual Exhibition. An example of the Annual Conditions of Entry can be found under the Annual Exhibitions tab. Definitions for the Set subject are listed in the Calendar an also in the entry area for a competition with a Set subject.
Note 1: You will need to be a registered Member and login to the ESCC competition software to enter competitions.
Note 2: the terms print, photograph and image are used interchangeably.

Preparation of Prints and Mounts
A guide to print size and preparation can be found here
Digital Image Preparation and Upload
A digital version of printed images is required to be uploaded in the ESCC competition software. This is to enable display of the print images on the screen during judging and for administration purposes. The Digital image specification is the same as that for digital images.

Judging
Independent volunteer judges are invited to each competition. Judges are drawn from a panel of trained judges managed by the South Australian Photographic Federation (SAPF). As well as scoring the photos the judges offer objective as well as subjective opinions and provide constructive criticism of the works presented. Judges are provided with image titles during judging.
The question is sometimes asked, "what does the judge like?" Perhaps the question should be turned around to be, "what qualities should the photo have that I am putting forward for judging?" There are a number of articles available on the internet and members can also consult with other members or their Mentor.
